Summary: For the production of sands for the construction materials industry BHS Sonthofen has developed special rotor crushers, which depending on crushing requirements and the application range of the sand product can process soft, medium-hard to hard and wear-intensive rock. At the company’s test centre original machines are available for conducting test series. The following paper describes the principle of operation of BHS rotor crushers and presents different examples of crusher performance with reference to screening curves.
Sand is a fundamental raw material component in the non-metallic minerals sector, as well as in the construction materials industry. In addition, sand is an important aggregate in concrete and mortar. The term sand is defined in the German industrial standard DIN 4226-1 as a fine rock grade with grain size range from 0-4 mm. In practice, sands are usually classified in the grades 0-1, 0-2, and 0-4 mm. Sand is found as a natural rock product or can be produced artificially in a crushing process. The demand for and the requirements to be met especially by high-quality sands are steadily rising.
